Cheniere Energy supports bilingual access for the Art Museum of South Texas’ Spanish Colonial Gallery
Dec 8, 2022
Corpus Christi, TX, December 2022—Cheniere Energy has generously donated $25,000 to support increased accessibility for Art Museum of South Texas’ (AMST’s) first permanent exhibition, the Dr. Clotilde P. Garcia Spanish Colonial Gallery.
The Spanish Colonial Gallery features Spanish Colonial, pre-Columbian and contemporary works inspired by artisans and artists of that time.
In fulfilling its mission, AMST aims to provide an inclusive and accessible gallery experience for both English and Spanish speaking visitors. Thanks to funding provided by Cheniere, AMST will enhance the exhibition experience by replacing English-only labels with English/Spanish translation text descriptions for each work of art in the gallery, lower text descriptions to increase accessibility for visitors with reduced mobility and develop English/Spanish audio guides to increase accessibility for visitors with visual impairments.
In a second phase of this initiative, AMST will soon provide visitors with the option of conducting self-guided tours in either English or Spanish using a personal listening device, or one provided by the museum on loan. This project, called Voces Locales, consists of local English and Spanish speakers reading short passages about each work of art from AMST’s Permanent Collection of over 2,000 pieces, starting with works currently on view in the Spanish Colonial Gallery.
