The Cheech Documentary
October 6, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
“THE CHEECH” is a 25-minute documentary inspired by Cheech Marin’s extensive collection of Chicano art and the opening of the Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art and Industry at the Riverside Art Museum. Edward Tyndall, Emmy-nominated filmmaker and former Program Coordinator and Associate Professor in the TAMU-CC Department of Communication and Media, produced and directed the documentary, which features a score by Grammy-nominee El Dusty. Tyndall and Marin connected through the “Los Tejanos: Chicano Art from the Collection of Cheech Marin” exhibit at the Art Museum of South Texas in January 2018; the Museum also served as the filming location for the documentary. The short version of the film will be screened at festivals in San Antonio, Austin, Albuquerque, and Oaxaca, Mexico.
The Art Museum of South Texas will host another screening of “THE CHEECH” on Sunday, October 6 from 4-6pm. After the documentary, local Chicano and Chicana artists will host gallery talks in the Selections from the Collection: Latino and Latina Heart Work exhibition.
