Press Release – Target Texas: drawn worlds opens September 4

Corpus Christi, TX, August 2020: Opening September 4, 2020, the Art Museum of South Texas (AMST) is pleased to present its first Fall 2020 exhibition, Target Texas: drawn worlds.Target Texas is a biennial series that offers a chance to see artwork created by six artists whose work depicts their “worlds” in graphite. In this exhibition, we experience what artists envision both inside our region and further afield. This is an opportunity to bring artists together working in a chosen medium with a wide variety of approaches.

Here visitors are invited to experience how a work in graphite can depict interior thought, memory, or imagined states of being. What compels the artist to make the work they do?

This exhibition presents the work of six Texas-based artists who are accomplished in careers as artists and fulfill their creative life by making drawings unique to their studio practice. How they handle the medium, the scale of the overall work and elements within this varied presentation affords the viewer an array of methods and ideas.

The exhibition is accompanied by a full-color catalogue designed by Alexandria Canchola and generously underwritten by Jason Aigner, Monica Robertson, and Chris Boeker. The publication includes introductions of the art and artists and biographical highlights.

About the Art Museum of South Texas
The Mission of the South Texas Institute for the Arts (the Institute), doing business as the Art Museum of South Texas, is to operate educational facilities and an art museum which advance the awareness, knowledge, appreciation, and enjoyment of the visual arts for residents and visitors of South Texas.
To meet its educational mission, the Institute will present a variety of programs which include classes, lectures, films, performances, and other activities which inspire community interest in the visual arts. These programs will be offered at the Art Museum of South Texas, the Antonio E. Garcia Arts and Education Center, and other outreach venues that serve the Institute’s mission.
