BAM! It’s a Picture Book: The Art Behind Graphic Novels

This exhibition was organized by the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature, Abilene, Texas and features today’s leading and best graphic novelists of the illustration world: Raina Telgemeier, Mark Crilley, Matthew Holm, Jarrett J. Krosoczka, and Lincoln Peirce, today’s leading and best graphic artists of the illustration world. Graphic novels have gained immense popularity in recent years to a diverse, expandedaudience.  According to the American Library Association, they are among the fastest growing categories in publishing and bookselling.  The cave paintings of ages past and hieroglyphics of ancient Egypt were the first examples of storytelling through pictures.  Over the years the graphic novel hasemerged as a financially successful medium combining storytelling and fineart and evolved into the popular DC Comic heroes we recognize today: Superman, Batman, and Marvel Comic’s Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, and X-Men.         Lincoln Peirce   Big NateFlips Out, 2013 Page 215, I got a great shot of Gina Pen and ink, 15” x  16 ½”  Mark Crilley Brody’s Ghost #1, 2010 Page 26-27, Confrontation Pen and ink, 21” x 17”  Matthew Holm   BabyMouse Queen of the World, 2005 Page 80-81, AAAGGHH Computer generated, framed with GA-37
