Art Museum of South Texas
The South Texas Art League has been an integral part of the history of the Art Museum of South Texas since the 1940s. Early on, Art League members were involved in operating the young museum located in Corpus Christi’s South Bluff Park. The Art League and many other vital local art groups make up the Art Center of Corpus Christi on Shoreline Boulevard. The 2006 Art League competition continued an annual tradition in which members competed for a place in a fall exhibition at the Art Museum. This year Art League members were asked to use a small scale format when creating work for the competition. Forty nine artworks were submitted and seventeen works were finally chosen after three rounds of review.
The selected art represented some of the finest studio work produced by Art League members, many of whom were also members and volunteers at the Art Museum. The work revealed an ongoing search by several artists to stretch the boundaries of their comfort zones and pursue new ways to express their talent in a visual form. Two-dimensional works dominated, ranging in media from watercolor to photo processes.
The Art Museum of South Texas is proud to have works by our talented local artists featured during the October 2006 Grand Opening celebrations for the museum expansion designed by Ricardo Legorreta.
