Art Museum of South Texas Announces Temporary Closure Beginning June 19 Due to Tropical Disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – June 18: The Art Museum of South Texas (AMST) is committed to the safety and well-being of our visitors, staff, and the fine art both within our holdings and facility. Heavy rains are forecasted for the Corpus Christi area Tuesday night through Thursday. Rainfall amounts of 8 to 10 inches could lead to areas of flash flooding. Predicted storm surge is a foot to a foot and a half. In accordance with emergency preparedness measures, we are announcing the temporary closure of the Art Museum, this includes Fine Art of Summer Camp session 3, effective June 19. AMST anticipates re-opening Thursday, June 20 as usual, following an assessment of weather conditions.

The decision to close AMST has been made in consultation with local authorities and is in the best interest of public safety. We urge all residents and visitors to take the necessary precautions and follow official guidance regarding the approaching storm.

During this period of closure, all scheduled exhibitions, events, and educational programs will be cancelled.  This will include the Antonio E. Garcia Arts & Education Center on 2021 Agnes Street.

AMST staff members will be taking steps to secure and protect the Museum’s valuable art collections and facilities.

We will closely monitor the tropical disturbance and will provide updates on our reopening date as soon as it is safe to do so. We encourage everyone to stay connected with us through our website (www. artmuseumofsouthtexas.org) and social media channels (linked below) for the latest information.

We understand the inconvenience this may cause, and we apologize for any disruption to your plans. The safety of our community is our top priority, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this time.
